Welcome to

About us

American Corners are friendly and welcoming American-style resource centers. They are open to public and completely free of charge. Hosted in local libraries in Kazakhstan, American Corners provide access to high-quality English language resources, English-conversation clubs, information about education in the United States, a large research database, American books, movies, games and much more. Visitors can connect with new friends, practice their English and learn about the United States.

What we do

English Language

Whether you are a student looking to improve your English skills or a teacher looking for high-quality resources for your classroom, your local American Corner is the right place for you! We offer books, CD’s and software for independent learning as well as English Conversation Clubs, Movie Clubs and more for those seeking to practice their speaking in groups. Current and future English teachers are invited to participate in our exclusive American English webinars.

EducationUSA Advising

In partnership with American Councils and EducationUSA Program, American Corners offer in-person or virtual educational advising services. High school and university students interested in studying in the United States receive free information on everything from entrance exams to choosing the right university. Students also have access to the latest test preparation materials TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE, GMAT and LSAT at each American Corner.

American Corners Astana, Almaty, and Oskemen have launched fully-equipped MakerSpaces where students and young professionals can come together to create, invent, and learn. These spaces offer 3D printers, software, robotics, electronics, science kits, craft supplies, construction kits, hardware and other tools necessary to start your projects. If you are in one of the other eight locations, don’t fret! Each of the other corners has a mini MakerSpace set that you can tinker with at any time!

Alumni Programs

Participants of U.S. Government-sponsored educational and cultural exchange programs (FLEX, UGrad, Fulbright, Muskie, Humphrey, IVLP etc.) meet at our American Corners to share their experiences and hold clubs and American holiday celebrations. Parents and students, it is a great opportunity for you to hear firsthand stories from fellow Kazakhstanies and decide whether education in the U.S. is right for you. If you are a USG alumnus(a), you are encouraged to volunteer at our AC’s and incorporate them into your project ideas if you are applying for alumni grants.

Community Engagement

Are you looking for a fun free community event to take part in? Check out your American Corner’s calendar of events and come on over to celebrate American holidays, World International Days, attend art and book exhibits, take part in a mobile library program, and more! You will make friends, practice your English, and learn about the United States in a welcoming and casual environment.

Information about the U.S.
